Today, the Diocese of York launches its new Prayer Diary, designed to encourage and energise prayer from across our church communities.

The newly shaped diary offers a pattern of pray praying for our churches and schools throughout the year, as well as weekly stories from across the diocese. These reflections celebrate all the ways we are Living Christ’s Story as a diocesan family, and are there to help us to pray for and with one another.

Alongside our prayers for the Anglican Communion and the Porvoo Communion, we are also committing to deepen our pattern of prayer for our link dioceses in South Africa (Cape Town, False Bay and Saldanha Bay), by praying for communities and organisations there each week.

Archbishop Stephen writes,

“In Jesus Christ we enter into a relationship with God. This relationship is nurtured and sustained by prayer.

“The church needs to become a house of prayer and each individual Christian must be a person of prayer."

Reflecting on the new Prayer Diary, Sammi Tooze, Diocesan Discipleship Adviser, comments,

“It’s really exciting to see the newly shaped prayer diary come to fruition, grounded on developments overseen by colleagues previously.

“As we continue to grow in becoming more like Christ, praying for and with one another is the foundation on which we come together as the body of Christ, through intercessions and storytelling alike.

“It’s a joy to begin a more committed pattern of prayer for our sisters and brothers in South Africa as well, strengthening our partnership link and reminding us all of the wider Church in which we all belong.”

The Prayer Diary published today begins a cycle of prayer on 31st December, and continues until 6th March 2024. The next edition of the Prayer Diary will be available in early February.

The new Prayer Diary includes a weekly story or news item to help inform and shape our prayers. This now replaces the downloadable, printable newsletter / magazine insert 'TheNews' - why not consider making use of the Prayer Diary in the same way?
