York Diocesan Board of Education: Supporting Christian Education

We aim to provide professional advice and assistance to support schools, colleges, universities and parishes in their Christian mission to children and young people through education.

The Diocese of York stretches across 8 local authorities between the River Tees and the Humber.

We serve 123 Church of England primary schools in the Diocese, of which 19 are Aided, three Foundation and the remainder Controlled. As in all 43 dioceses of the Church of England, primaries outnumber secondaries. Three of our four secondaries, in Hull and York, are now Academies, with our remaining secondary in Stockton due to convert to Academy status in the near future. We also have a growing number of schools affiliated to the diocese.

The Chair of the Board is the Rt Revd Martin Warner, Bishop of Whitby, and the Director of Education is Canon Dr Ann Lees.
