Dealing with a crisis

If something bad happens at your church, whether it is stolen lead or bitter arguments between parties, the local press can often get hold of a story.

If you get a call from a Reporter or Journalist that you feel uncomfortable with:

  • Answer politely
  • When he/she asks for help decline in a friendly manner
  • Tell them you are unable to help but you do know someone who can
  • Refer them to the Diocesan Communications Officer on 01904 699502, 07946 748702 or comms@yorkdiocese.org.
  • Do not be drawn to affirm or deny anything the person may put to you
  • Refer them to DCO again in a very friendly way

Eleanor Course, the Diocesan Communications Officer, can offer support and advice, and can get involved and act on your behalf if appropriate. If you need any advice or help, please contact her on 01904 699530, 07946 748702 or comms@yorkdiocese.org
