Royal Albert Hall comes to York
Thursday, 26th January 2012
One of the more unusual concerts that will take place in the newly refurbished York Barbican this year will be Prom Praise.
Prom Praise is a wonderful blend of sacred and concert music, combining the spirit of Songs of Praise with the world-famous Last Night of the Proms. Every year Prom Praise hosts concerts at national venues including the Royal Albert Hall. On Saturday 22 September at 7.30pm, the All Souls Orchestra will bring that same atmosphere to the York Barbican.
The organising team is busy seeking volunteers to help publicise and arrange the event. They are particularly delighted that the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu has agreed to co-host the evening alongside conductor Noël Tredinnick. Proceeds from the performance will be given to support the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) Association and the Langham Arts Trust.
Chairman of Prom Praise York, Revd Les Slow from Pocklington, told us “We’ve wanted to bring Prom Praise to York for a long time and it’s great to be able to use the York Barbican for the event. We know that there will be lots of people who will want to come and enjoy a great night out.”
More detailed information is available at www.prompraiseyork.org.uk through which you can contact the committee or offer to join the choir. Tickets are now on sale at the York Barbican (www.yorkbarbican.co.uk).
