Archdeaconry of Cleveland raises £6,500 for Diocese of False Bay
Wednesday, 25th January 2012
A group from the Archdeaconry of Cleveland - Bishop Martin Warner, Sister Pam OHP, the Revd Marie Edwards, the Revd Luke Tillett, the Revd John Ford and Barbara Ford - visited in the Diocese of False Bay last May. Among the projects that they visited were St Francis of Assisi, Mandela Park and the Overstrand Care Centre, Hawston.
The project in St Francis, Mandela Park needed money to keep caring for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, and to start a soup kitchen for the Day Care Facility. The Overstrand Care Centre, Hawston needed money to keep their work going, and to buy 50 chairs, 35 bed lockers, 15 bed screens and 12 heaters.
In the autumn, Bishop Martin asked churches in the Archdeaconry of Cleveland to help these projects in their twin Diocese – each church was asked to send £25, and hopefully £4,000 would be raised. A cheque has just been sent out to False Bay for a massive £6,500 – that’s £2,500 more than the target! This will mean a huge difference to the projects in Mandela Park and Hawston. Many thanks to all who gave money for this appeal.
