Plant For Peace Sunflower Rally, York

Saturday 4th September, 2010 2pm to 4pm Kings Square, York If you wish to pay your respects to the fallen British soldiers and lost Afghan civilians of the Afghanistan War, and to call for an end to the war, please join us at our Sunflower Rally, hold one of our sunflowers and ,if possible, wear some yellow. York Against The War's 'Plant For Peace' Sunflower Rally aims to highlight the human cost of the Afghanistan War, with over 300 sunflowers, each representing one of our fallen soldiers and each sunflower seedhead the thousands of lost Afghan civilians. The Sunflower Rally marks the start of the tenth year of the Afghanistan War and calls for its end. We have a wonderful platform of poet, singer and speakers. Andy Croft, known informally as 'Poet Laureate of the North', Stan Graham, international singer-songwriter and former officer with 36 years' military service and Lindsey German, Stop The War Convener, Joyce Pickard, Freeman of the City of York, and Peter Brierley, of Military Families Against The War, whose soldier son was lost early in the Iraq War, will all call for Peace on the afternoon of Saturday 4th September, in Kings Square, York. Please join us. Together We Can Be Heard.
