House for Duty Assistant Priest – Sowerby, Sessay and Thirkleby with Kilburn and Bagby
A House for Duty Assistant Priest is sought for this new plurality near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. It comprises the three benefices of Sowerby, Sessay and Thirkleby with Kilburn and Bagby, and includes an area of vale as well as the edge of the Hambleton Hills.
The benefices are being brought together in January 2012, when the Priest-in-Charge of Sowerby and Sessay, the Revd Nicola Carnall, also becomes Priest-in-Charge of Thirkleby with Kilburn and Bagby. There is a scheme in progress to make these five parishes into a plurality.
We are looking for an Assistant Priest who will share in worship, mission and pastoral care throughout the plurality. The minimum duty will be the equivalent of two full days per week including Sunday duties. A modern former vicarage is provided in the picturesque village of Kilburn, famous for its White Horse and ‘Mousey Thompson’ furniture. The market town of Thirsk (home of James Herriot) is 7 miles from Kilburn, half a mile from Sowerby.
The post offers a variety of opportunities for parish ministry alongside the Priest-in-Charge. The ministry team includes three Readers and many other committed and capable lay people.
The qualities most desired are an enthusiasm for all aspects of parish ministry and enjoyment of working with others. Ability to travel around the whole group, with access to a car, is essential.
Appointment to this position is subject to satisfactory enhanced disclosure via the Criminal Records Bureau.
Closing date: Easter 2012
