Human Resources – Support and Guidance Available to Diocesan Employees
We appreciate that there will be times when you require support at work. What follows is an overview of the HR support available to you. Staff are encouraged to raise concerns as they arise as opposed to leaving matters to potentially get worse rather than better. If you do have any concerns you should discuss them with either your line manager or one of the following people:
Peter Warry, our Diocesan Secretary, manages the support and business functions of the Diocese and has overall responsibility for the well-being and personnel management of DBF employees. Peter can be contacted through the Diocesan Office (01904 699 500).
Peter’s PA, Rhona Ellwood, looks after the day to day matters relating to:
- Annual Leave Records
- Appraisal Records
- Employee well being (including eye vouchers and the Diocesan Health Screening programme)
- Recruitment, selection and probationary periods
- Absence reporting
- Training and Development Courses

The Diocesan Board of Finance is supported by Regional HR advisers, led by Elaine Frecknall. Contact can be made c/o the Diocesan Secretary in the first instance.
The following additional services are also offered to all diocesan staff
- Health Screening
The Diocese operates a free Health Screening Programme for all those who receive an income from the Diocese of York. Please see the leaflet below for further information.
- Counselling/Mediation
The Diocese recognises that its duty of care extends to mental health as well as physical health. The Revd Andrew De Smet, Archbishop's Adviser and Coordinator of Pastoral Care, can offer or arrange counselling (general, couples, stress management, depression), mediation, spiritual direction or just space to confidentially talk through pastoral, professional or personal matters.
