The Right Reverend Richard Frith took up his current post in January 1999. A clergyman's son, Richard was born in 1949 and educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire and Fitzwilliam College Cambridge. He began reading history, but soon realised he was running away from following in the footsteps of his father and elder brother and switched to theology, graduating in 1972. Training at St John's Theological College in Nottingham followed and Richard was ordained a deacon in 1974, and a priest the following year.
Richard’s first position in the church was as an assistant curate at Mortlake with East Sheen, Southwark which he held from 1974. In 1978 Richard moved to Thamesmead as team vicar and from there to Keynsham, Bath and Wells in 1983 as team rector. He was appointed Archdeacon of Taunton in 1992, which was his most recent post before moving north to Hull.
Richard enjoys the mix of city, small town and countryside in the diocese. He is a passionate cricket-lover, and also enjoys theatre. He married Kay in April 2006 and between them they have eight children and five grandchildren.
